Well it’s day 3 now and we survived the Mereenie Loop. The rental car even looks like it’s in pretty good shape… Yesterday we arrived at Kings Canyon and are now staying at the Kings Canyon Resort.
There’s not much at Kings Canyon – the resort is really nice considering we are truly in the middle of nowhere.
Since this is our only full day in Kings Canyon we decided to head to the Canyon and check it out. When we first arrived at the canyon we were confronted with a set of rock stairs up a steep cliff face. It didn’t look too bad but it did take a bit of work getting up there. After the first climb everything gets much, much easier.
It’s massive on top of the canyon – there’s a lot of bushes and there are rocks to climb everywhere. I took this shot at the top of the initial climb. It’s still fairly early in the morning – probably about 8:30am and the sun is just rising over the rocks of the canyon.
